Digital-Detox + Self-Care: An Invitation

I’ve been blogging, off and on, since 2007. That’s a long time. As a click or two in this very space would indicate, I’ve taken a digital hiatus for the past six months or so. Life has, suffice it to say, changed dramatically.

My family and I have picked up stakes and moved. My work (and day job + nights+weekends job) has changed substantially. Too many changes, then, and challenges (mostly good), to further enumerate here.

So that’s simply to say the hiatus reflects less time for digital extemporizing, yes. But it reflects, more than that, a set of new priorities. I have made a conscious shift — in my reading and writing lives (life, really; they’re connected, of course; a singularity) — toward analog forms. More paper cuts and ink stains, a sturdy and steady-growing callous on the middle finger of my writing hand.

I go slower and I expect less of myself. An evolution of what I call, in this space, “Write Mindfulness,” but is really just a process of trying to be more honest, more authentic, less judgemental and desperate for…what, exactly? Do we ever know? Maybe you do. I don’t.

At any rate, I can merely report that life with my books and notebooks, with my various new (tangible) forms and (physical) places of work, is feeling more real to me right now. Imagine that.

So on the off chance anyone’s looking for me, that’s where I’ll be. At least for a while. Amen.
